Tokyo Auto Salon Part 2

 photo IMG_6960_zpsb948f540.jpg

The Tokyo Auto Salon 2013 is the largest show in Japan and the first show for 2013 the brings out most of the Japans after market community. Tokyo Auto Salon isn't as big as Sema is but the quality of the cars way better than the builds in the USA, but of course what can you expect when your at a Japan car show, these guys really perfect there work.

Last year we featured Osaka Auto Messe 2012 in which the 2 shows are very similar. We like the Osaka show better because it seemed to have more rides that were not shop owned and you get to see what normal everyday guys build and also the food in Osaka is way better than Tokyo.

Bold World Feature

 photo IMG_7061_zps177bda9b.jpg

We would like to thank Mr. Haruki Kobayashi of Bold World for getting us the passes to attend Tokyo Auto Salon 2013.

Those of you that haven’t heard of Bold World, Bold World has been in the automotive aftermarket scene in Japan for many years. They cater to VIP, Wagons and Van, K Cars, and the Racing community. Bold World sells and manufacture a wide range of products from wheels, big brakes, coil overs, to air suspensions.

While walking around the TAS show we noticed a lot of cars with the Bold World Logos on them.

First stop was to fill up our SUICA Cards that is used to ride the trains

Helluva Rides made its annual trip to Japan. We had planned to get coverage in Osaka in Feb for the Osaka Auto Messe 2013 but our schedules didn't permit us to attend the 2013 Osaka Show. So we ended up on a Hawaiian Airlines flight on Jan. 9 headed back to Tokyo in first class seats. It has been 2 years since our last visit to Tokyo.

SEMA 2012 TEAM SUN WORKS SHOWCASE

On this 2nd feature of Helluva Rides many think that only the cars inside of SEMA were show stoppers, but in many cases there is another side of SEMA were most cars are not part of a huge company that has 1000’s of dollars of marketing money to invest in building a company show car and has the upper hand because they are the manufactures of the many products that these cars outside are rocking.

You have to give these cars and there owners huge respect for being at SEMA as a SEMA featured vehicle. These guys work hard to fund their passions some with little help from a sponsor, thats if they can hook up any. Most of these guys or clubs pay their own fee to be at SEMA to show outside of SEMA. There were cars outside of SEMA that came as far as Asia and Hawaii, and those cars had to be shipped on a boat than either driven or trailered to SEMA to Las Vegas. On top of paying their own way into SEMA, these guys are not getting paid to be at SEMA for a whole week, you know they either took vacation, leave or called in sick.??When many first walked through the cars outside of SEMA to get to the convention center, there were two cars that we saw posted on Facebook by many even before we got to SEMA on Weds. There was no way anyone could have walked past these two cars. Both of these cars were not your normal cars we are used to seeing in the scene, one old school and one new school. Both cars were from TEAM SUN*WORKS which is a Nationwide team with over 80 members, and it has been tearing up the show scene and has won the Import Faceoff Show Series National Championship the past 4 years and they are about to win their fifth consecutive championship this year. Both cars are also from Amarillo, Texas and many of you saw them, they were the Grey Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the JDM 1970 Datsun 510 Bluebird sitting outside.

SEMA 2012 SCION FRS

We can’t believe a year has gone by since our last feature of Sema 2011 was posted. Sema is what we would call an annual get together of anything that deals with anything on wheels. Companies all come together to show case there new product and builds.

Sema is also where enthusiast showcase there builds from all over the world. It is also a place where you meet old friends and meet a ton of new friends with the same interest.

This year for Helluva Rides its wasn’t a 24hr one day trip to Sema 2012, we actually stayed in vegas for 4 days in which we still needed more days to see all what sema offers. You name it Sema had it, parts, tools, audio, wheels, tires, suspension system, rally racing, drifting and show cars, it just something for everyone!

Las Vegas Lowrider Super Show 2012 Part 1

Just to say yes we are still alive and well. We haven't been updating the site as much as we would like to but we hope this show coverage will make up for that!

I found out last minute “the day before the show” that the Lowrider Super Show in Las Vegas was going to happen on Oct 14 2013. With me Lowriders and I have a connection. Even though I left the scene about 17 years ago, I still have have it in my blood. My last Lowrider Super Show I attended was more than 17 years ago before they moved the show out of Los Angeles to Las Vegas. I can tell you why and experienced myself why Lowrider Magazine would move the show to Vegas, after witnessing gang shootings at the show, guys bashing up each others cars on the freeway you don't blame them from moving the show to vegas. IMO the shows in LA were much larger.

So last minute my son and I hopped onto Hawaiian Airlines and made it a quick 24 hour trip to Vegas. I would be his first Lowrider show and he never knew what to expect after going to a ton of Import shows. When we first got there there was a massive line. When we got into the show floor. A Lowrider was the first thing he saw that had it wheels all off and everything was left untouched and he was just blown way and as we walked through the show it just got better and better, I think i just ruined it for him as when goes to import shows the cars are not built like these lowriders. For me it amazes me that Lowriding is still well and alive, The passion, time and creativity each owner puts into there builds are still how i remember it when I left the scene 17 years ago.

What better wat to fly to Vegas on an Hawaiian Air flight first class!

Overall it was nice to make a trip out of Hawaii to soak up car customizing at its best.
We will leave you guys here and let the photos again to the talking!

Enjoy!

Spocom Hawaii 2012

2012 Spocom Hawaii Best of Show Winner Lance Harano

Spocom Hawaii 2012 came a month early this year. Normally the show is held on the last weekend in August, but this year they changed it up a little and held the show right after the 4th of July holiday on Saturday July 7  2012.

This year over a 100 cars came out. and there were a few new rides that were unveiled at Spocom. Many of us knows Lance Harano one of Hawaii’s top car builders around. Many of us remember his Orange 1973 TE27 Toyota Sprinter that won best of show at Spocom 2010.. Lance unveiled his latest build and once again won best of show at Spocom! We will go into detail on his build on a full feature of his award winning ride.

Here is the feature of his other ride!
Oh what a Feeling!

Garson DAD Store Osaka

Photobucket

Photobucket

When you think of VIP style in the USA. Garson DAD is one of the brands that everyone   relates to VIP when VIP first came to the USA. There mainly known for there Black Vans and Wagons. Many still rock there curtains till today. Many Scion owners were all over there curtains. But Garson is also known for being the KING OF BLING! Just look at there benz in our feature and you’ll understand why. You either have to be smoking batu “Ice” or just very dedicated to just sit in front of a car for days glueing over a million crystals on a Benz. Garson has also set new trends and always has items that make you sat WTF that is nuts. when you go to a major car show in Japan, Garson always has the largest booth and the most crowded booth with many Japanese people buying there products. They don't only sell car parts, they also have there own line of clothing and hand bags that are very popular in Japan.
